Golf carts are a way of life on Amelia Island, from neighborhood streets to trips to the beach. Many owners assume their homeowners policy covers the cart, but many policies limit that coverage to your own property or a golf course.
Southend Insurance insures both regular golf carts and street-legal low-speed vehicles (LSVs) across Fernandina Beach and Nassau County, so you're covered wherever you're allowed to drive.
What golf cart insurance can cover
- Liability if you injure someone or damage property
- Collision damage to your cart
- Theft, vandalism and storm damage
- Medical payments for you and your passengers
- Uninsured motorist coverage
- Custom parts like lift kits, seats, wheels and stereos
Golf carts vs. low-speed vehicles
- Golf carts top out under 20 mph. Florida doesn't require insurance on them, but a policy protects you from liability and covers theft and damage.
- Low-speed vehicles (LSVs) go 20 to 25 mph and must be registered, titled and insured like a car, with at least $10,000 of personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 of property damage liability.
Not sure which you have? Read our guide to golf cart insurance and Florida rules, or call and we'll help you figure it out.
Good to know in Florida: The City of Fernandina Beach and Nassau County decide which public streets carts can use. Golf cart drivers under 18 need a learner's permit or driver's license, and drivers 18 and older need a valid government-issued photo ID.
Golf Cart Insurance FAQs
Does my homeowners policy cover my golf cart?
Sometimes, but often only on your own property or a golf course. An accident on a neighborhood street or a cart stolen from a parking lot may not be covered. Send us your policy and we'll check.
Is golf cart insurance required in Florida?
Not for golf carts. Low-speed vehicles (LSVs) must carry at least $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability, just like a car.
Can I add my golf cart to my auto policy?
Some carriers can add a golf cart or LSV to an existing policy, and others write it as a separate policy. We'll compare both options.
Are custom upgrades covered?
Lift kits, custom seats, wheels and stereos may need extra coverage for custom parts and equipment. Tell us about your upgrades when you request a quote.
